| This page contains most medium to large sized
applications that I wrote in High School (excluding The Frontier and
Ship Wars apps). So, all of these applications have been designed in
Visual Basic 6.0 (and hence, I have code of these apps but no working
executable in many cases). If you'd like to see code, send me an
e-mail.
Galactica is the first large application that I developed. The
application has no graphics, no clever solutions to problems, a very
unfriendly user interface - full of bugs, and a complex, confusing data
backbone that I wouldn't trust further than I can understand why it was
implemented the way it was. It supports multiple human players on a hot
seat mode and has no AI. All and all, not bad for a stepping stone. I
haven't even tried to get this app to work in its new environment (not
that it worked in its old environment) - but I have the code.
Max Imperia is a space-based game with planets and ships. It is the
second large application that I developed. This application actually
has graphics, in comparison to my first big app, allows you to customize
ships, research hundreds of topics, and build up to 50 or so different
buildings on each planet you colonize. There are also 100 or so ship
options that you can research and use. Although the game does work -
quite well actually - it does not support multiple human players very
well (I tried a hot seat type thing like with Galactica, but it's not
fair for the last one to play). Also, the game doesn't support computer
players - so it's not very fun. This is one of the apps that I can't
get to work in its new environment - but I have all the code.
Jeopardy is just what it sounds like - a jeopardy program. No fancy
/ clever implementation - but the user interface for game play is fairly
good and it wasn't buggy last time I ran it. Unfortunately, the app
doesn't have a game creation utility - in other words, you have to type
the data file manually with the correct formatting - not as hard as it
sounds (and if you mess up, the app tells you), but far from desirable.
This is one of the apps that I can't get to work in its new environment
- but I have all the code.
I designed two financial management applications. One is very
simple, didn't take more than 10 hours to implement, and isn't worth
talking about. The other had a user-friendly interface, kept track of
orders, suppliers, customers, RMAs, tech support calls, inventory, items
for sale, etc. The application works quite well - but I didn't save it
with the rest of my programs, so I have to wade through gigabytes of
backups to find it - some day. |
